Use the MN STAR Staff Reporting - Reports page to generate verification reports and electronic submission files for the Minnesota Department of Education's STAR (Staff Automated Reporting) system. This page allows users to create hard copy reports for data review and validation, as well as generate the fixed-length text files required for electronic submission to MDE.

On the MN STAR Staff Reporting page, select Report.

Select the Report Date.

In the Report Options section:

Select Licensed Demographic to include licensed staff demographic information in the report or electronic file. This option generates data for employees with licensed assignments, including personal information, employment status, education level, and years of experience. This option is selected by default.

Select Licensed Assignment to include licensed staff assignment information in the report or electronic file. This option generates assignment-level data for employees with licensed assignments, including assignment codes, school numbers, grade levels, and teaching mode.

Select Non-Licensed to include non-licensed staff information in the report or electronic file. This option generates data for employees with non-licensed assignments, including demographic information, assignment codes, and hours worked.

Create a hard copy of the report to verify data before you create the electronic file:

Select Hard Copy.

Select PDF or Excel.

Select Create, and then Yes.

Save the files and select OK.

Navigate to the folder containing the report files.

Inspect the files. Update data if needed.

Repeat these steps until all the required data is included.

Create the electronic file:

Select Electronic File.
-
Select Create, and then Yes.

Save the files and select OK.

The default file names are:

Licensed Demographic report: LB<district number><Report Date>.txt

Licensed Assignment report: LA<district number><Report Date>.txt

Non-Licensed report: NA<district number><Report Date>.txt
