PERS Report - Setup - Retirement Deduction Codes

Use the OR PERS Report - Retirement Deduction Codes page to define and maintain the association between payroll deduction codes and Oregon PERS (Public Employees Retirement System) retirement contribution types. This page allows users to map deduction codes to specific PERS retirement categories for accurate state retirement reporting.

  • On the OR PERS Report page, select Setup, and then Retirement Deduction Codes.

  • Filter records using the filter criteria. To enter filter criteria:

    1. Select an option in the first field.

    2. Select or enter a value.

    3. Select Add if the button is enabled.
      Refer to Search for Records for more information.

      • To add a record, select Add new. Refer to the Field descriptions and enter valid information in the required fields. Select Save, then Yes.

      • To edit a record, select the record and select Accept. Update the information and select Accept.

      • To delete, select Delete, then Yes.

      • To download the information, click Download, and then select Download PDF or Download as an Excel Document.

The following table describes the fields on the Retirement Deductions form of the OR PERS Report - Retirement Deduction Codes page.

Description

Deduction Code

The payroll deduction code used for Oregon PERS retirement contributions. This field is used to identify which payroll deductions should be included in PERS retirement reporting.

Only deduction codes set up for retirement purposes should be selected.

Select Lookup to search for and select a retirement deduction code.

The records on the Deduction Code Search Tool page are retrieved from the Deduction Table page.

This field is view-only and cannot be updated after saving the record.

Description

The title or description of the deduction code.

The value is retrieved from the Title field on the General tab of the Deduction Table page.

This field is view-only.

Retirement Type

The classification of the PERS retirement deduction that determines how the contribution is categorized for state reporting. The retirement type affects how contributions are reported to the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System.

Valid values:

  • PRE - Pre-Tax:
    Member contributions made on a pre-tax basis. These contributions reduce the employee's taxable income and are tax-deferred until retirement.

  • AFT - Member After-Tax:
    Member contributions made on an after-tax basis. These contributions have already been taxed and are not subject to additional taxation upon withdrawal.

  • UNT - Unit Contribution:
    Employer unit contributions to the PERS retirement fund. These are employer-paid contributions that are reported separately from member contributions.

  • IAP - IAP Contribution:
    Individual Account Program contributions. The IAP is a defined contribution component of PERS, in which contributions are deposited into individual member accounts.
