TRA Retirement Report - Maintain Data - Retirement Deductions

Use the MN Retirement Deductions page to map payroll deduction codes to Minnesota state retirement plans (PERA and TRA).

Ensure that deduction codes are set up on the Deduction Table page. If you need to first set up a PERA or TRA Retirement deduction record, refer to:

  1. On the MN TRA Retirement Report page, select Retirement Deductions.

  2. Filter records using the filter criteria. To enter filter criteria:

    1. Select an option in the first field.

    2. Select or enter a value.

    3. Select Add if the button is enabled.
      Refer to Search for records for more information.

      • To add a record, select Add Record. Refer to the Field descriptions and enter valid information in the required fields. Select Save, and then Yes.

      • To edit a record, select the ellipsis in the Actions column and then select Edit. Update the information and select Save.

      • To delete a record, select the ellipsis in the Actions column, select Delete, and then select Yes.

      • To download the information, select Download, then select Download PDF or Download as an Excel Document. The default file names are:

        • Excel: MN Retirement Deductions_<MMDDYYYY_hhmmss>.xlsx

        • PDF: MN Retirement Deductions_<MMDDYYYY_hhmmss>.pdf

Field descriptions

The following table describes the fields on the MN Retirement Deduction Information form of the MN Retirement Deductions page.

Deduction Code

The four-character payroll deduction code to be linked to a state retirement plan.

This field is view-only.

The records on the Deduction Code Search Tool form are retrieved from the Deduction Table page.

Description

The descriptive title of the deduction code.

This field is view-only.

The field value is retrieved from the Title field on the General tab of the Deduction Table page.

Deduction Type

The Minnesota state retirement system the deduction applies to.

Valid values:

  • PERA

  • TRA

Deduction Plan

Identifies the specific retirement plan within the selected deduction type.

Valid values:

  • 01 - Basic

  • 02 - Coordinated

  • 03 - Police and Fire

  • 07 - Privatization

  • 11 - Correctional

  • 14 - DCP Ambulance

  • 15 - DCP Physician

  • 16 - DCP Elected Official

  • 17 - DCP City Manager

  • 99 - Exempt Re-employed PERA Benefit Recipient

Adjustment Flag

Indicates whether the deduction is used specifically for processing adjustments to retirement contributions.

If this option is selected, records using this deduction code are flagged as adjustments rather than regular contributions.

Not applicable

Unearned Contribution Type

Specifies how employer contributions on unearned salary (such as summer pay) are handled.

Valid values:

  • (blank) - Not applicable

  • 06 - Employer-paid Employer Share on Unearned Salary

  • 07 - Pre-Tax Member-paid Employer Share on Unearned Salary

  • 07 - Post-Tax Member-paid Employer Share on Unearned Salary
