Assignments
You must enter employee assignments to report the data for the IA Basic Educational Data Survey. You must enter assignments using the Iowa Assignment codes. A list of valid codes is available on the Iowa Department of Education BEDS website.
Specify Baseline Assignment Information For Regular Employees
Regular employees do not have a Pending Status of Add Pending on the Employee Information page.
On the application start page, choose Menu, then choose Human Resources.
Select Entry & Processing, then choose Employee Information (under Employee).
Specify the search criteria, then click Find.
Alternatively, you can select Exclude Pending Employees, then click Find.Double-click the relevant employee record.
Click Personnel Information and select Assignments.
On the navigation bar, click Add new. Refer to Assignments#Field Descriptions and enter the required information.
On the navigation bar, click OK.
You can add up to 4 assignments per employee.
Specify Baseline Assignment Information For Pending Employees

Alternatively, you can select Only List Pending Employees, then click Find.Double-click the relevant employee record.
Click Assignments (under Personnel).
Click Add new. Refer to Assignments#Field Descriptions and enter the required information.
On the navigation bar, click OK.
Click Finish.
You can add up to 4 assignments per employee.

Percent | Full-Time Equivalency (FTE) | Decimal value representing the percentage of time spent in the assignment (100% = 1.00). A value between .001 and 1.00 indicates the percentage of time that is allocated to the position. This is calculated by dividing the time a staff member spends in their position by the total time in the workweek. |
Job Class | Class of job associated with a state-defined program. | Job code associated with a special program for BEDS reporting. For the latest job codes, see the latest Staff Code Sets file available at https://educateiowa.gov/data-and-reporting/data-reporting/beds/fall-beds-staff. |
Program | Program (funding) code | Program code associated with an assignment for BEDS reporting. At Risk - At-Risk assurance | The district gives the department an assurance that the teacher in the classroom teaching at-risk students is properly licensed or working with another properly licensed teacher. | Stored in assignment.grade13. |
Special Ed – Consultative | The delivery method used in the special education classroom is "Consultative." In other words, the teacher is working with another teacher to instruct the special education students in core content. | Stored in assignment.grade14. |
Special Ed – Core | The delivery method used in the special education classroom is "Core content delivered in Special Education Classroom." In other words, the teacher of record for core content classes is the teacher in the Special Education Classroom who is appropriately licensed to teach the core content for the class. | Stored in assignment.grade15. |
Special Ed – Alternate Assessment | The delivery method used in the special education classroom is "Special Education Classroom with alternate assessment." In other words, the students are given an alternate assessment rather than the district-wide assessment. | Stored in assignment.grade16. |
